2014 xxl freshmen cover

Chicago Dominates XXL 2014 Freshmen Cover

This evening, XXL released their highly anticipated freshmen cover, which features a selection of the best up-and-coming emcees in hip hop.

The 2014 class is a strong one, and a clear representation of what people are listening to this year. As you can imagine, numerous emcees from Chicago made the list, including Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Lil Bibby, and Lil Durk. With four rappers making the cut, Chi-Town comprises 1/3 of the 2014 XXL Freshmen Class.

Other freshmen include Rich Homie Quan, Troy Ave, Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla $ign, Kevin Gates, Jon Connor, August Alsina, and this year’s 10 spot winner Jarren Benton.

The XXL freshmen cover is held in high regard. Past freshmen include Kendrick Lamar, YG, Big Sean, Macklemore, and Future. However, there have definitely been some questionable selections (we all remember Lil Twist). Regardless, this cover always causes plenty of debate, and if you look on Twitter your sure to find some upset rappers.

Leave your thoughts on this year’s freshmen in the comment section.
