Wiz Khalifa Taps Ty Dolla $ign For R&B Jam “Something New”

Wiz Khalifa has been quiet on the music circuit since the release of last year’s Khalifa, occasionally teasing fans with loosies and a quick-hit EP in anticipation of his Rolling Papers 2. As summer comes to a close however, Khalifa is making sure that he doesn’t miss his moment.

Today he drops off “Something New,” the first single from his upcoming fourth studio album, which is slated for a fall release. The track features an enthralling performance by his Taylor Gang mate Ty Dolla $ign.

Khalifa has occupied many lanes in hip hop since his early-decade breakthrough, from the turn-up anthems that helped him dominated radio (“Black and Yellow,” “We Dem Boyz”) to the smoothed-out cuts that exhibit his versatility (“You and Your Friends,” “Roll Up”). “Something New” is a well-timed example of the latter, as Wiz takes his time over a beat that pays homage to Zapp & Roger’s timeless “Computer Love.”

Per an Atlantic Records press release, Wiz is due to release his Khalifa follow-up in the coming months, but no mention is made of whether it’s his teased Rolling Papers 2 project, the sequel to his major label debut. While we wait for more details, stream “Something New” below.
