The $1 Million Vintage Polo Ralph Lauren Collection

Ever open your closet and think, “Damn, I got a million dollars worth of clothing?” Most likely not. However, if you are a Lo-Head, you know damn well that a Snow Beach Pullover could be sold for a pretty staggering price. Yesterday, collector Ezra Wine (EZ-LO), put up 100 of his rarest Vintage Polo Ralph Lauren grails for sale. The price he’s asking for the whole collection? A cool $1 million.

Wine’s collection is made up of Lo power pieces, items that are easily the most sought after in the collecting community. And by just looking at the graphics on the Silk Crest shirt and the iconic “SLAM” tee, one can understand why these are some of the most coveted pieces.

Wine said he started collecting Polo in 1995 at the age of 15. His collection took him over 20 years to build and he hopes to have it inside a real museum like the Whitney, Smithsonian or the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Before putting his collection on sale, Wine was the Lo-Plug and sold his garments to artists like Kanye West, Chris Brown and Raekwon. Perhaps the most iconic item Wine has sold is Ye’s ’92 Sit Down Bear sweater.

Wine’s collection sale comes right in time for Ralph Lauren’s 50th anniversary. Thankfully, the company itself has made a huge turnaround and has come to embrace the golden age of Lo with the return of some classic designs. Earlier this year, Ralph Lauren revealed that some reissued Stadium 1992 graphics and P-Wing reissues are set to arrive in stores later this year.

Whether Wine’s collection is actually worth a milly is hard to say. However, what is certain is that it is definitely priceless to the right collector. Hopefully, the Smithsonian will take hime up on his offer. We need that permanent Lo-Life exhibition ASAP.
