Tokunbo Collins “Southside / Martyr Music” Video
A two-part visual from the Queens emcee
Straight out of Southside Jamaica, Queens, EYESTAYGOLD recording artist Tokunbo Collins releases visuals for his powerful single “Southside/Martyr Music.”
The 2-part video starts with the hard-hitting and hypnotic single “Southside,” taking viewers on a tour of Tokunbo’s neck of the woods, as he raps about the poverty stricken conditions of his community with introspective lines like, “Drastic times calls for drastic measures / Niggas die everyday / It’s do or die / So pop that pussy out of poverty.”
The second part of the video is for “Martyr Music,” which builds on the police brutality seen through out the nation in last few years. When asked about the video direction and nature of the video, the label stated:
Director Godfred Sedano captured the true essence of each song, shooting “Southside” on Linden Blvd in an abandoned home and shooting “Martyr Music” in an abandoned mental asylum. It brings the grittiness of the themes in each song to life. Tokunbo refuses to turn a blind eye to what’s going on in his neighborhood and the world. He wants to bring awareness to his listeners and hopefully spark a change in the way we think and see ourselves. This is only the beginning of what is to come.
