A native of Toronto, Aubrey Graham, now known as Drake, got his start as an actor on the 2001 series Degrassi: The Next Generation. Although he began in acting, Drake had plans to enter the hip hop scene from a young age. His third mixtape, So Far Gone, gained him major attention in 2009, with “Best I Ever Had” peaking at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.
After signing with Young Money in 2009, it’s been nothing but gains for Champagne Papi. He released his first studio album, Thank Me Later, in 2010, followed by Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013), and Views (2016). In between these releases, Drake was featured on many tracks by other artists such as A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin’ Problems” (2012), iLoveMakonnen’s “Tuesday” (2014), Future’s “Where Ya At” (2015), and Rihanna’s “Work” (2016). Drake’s consistent releases and features have gained him major relevancy in hip hop and pop music. His most recent project, More Life, dubbed a “playlist,” was released on March 18, 2017, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. This project incorporates many elements of African diasporic music like dancehall, afrobeats and afrohouse, a trend that Drake has followed in recent years.See more
