T.I. Expresses His Frustration with Kanye’s Trump Meeting: “What the Fuck You Doing, Man?”
Tip isn't happy with 'Ye, Steve Harvey and others
T.I., the orator of many classic social media rants, has directed his latest Instagram opus to his buddy and frequent collaborator, Kanye West, who’s drawn the ire of many in recent weeks.
Rampant sympathy for West–considering his transgressions with Kim Kardashian’s robbery ordeal and the truncation of his Saint Pablo Tour–turned to frustration when he took a late-December meeting with Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York City. After the meeting, West explained on Twitter that he met with Trump to discuss bullying and Chicago.
The meeting didn’t go over well in general, but T.I. was especially upset by it, and roughly a month later he’s expressed his discontent. “There’s a strategic plan that people are trying to make you a part of, okay?,” T.I. starts. “So do not accept any invitation to have any meeting. You being there, being seen with them, taking pictures and smiling and being positive may seem positive to you, but there’s a hidden agenda man.” Before concluding, Tip invoked the recent John Lewis incident as an example of how Trump should be approached. “You might not know it. But now you have been warned. Do not go in there unless you have a strategy or you’re with John Lewis or somebody who can represent us.”
In recent days, more prominent members of the black community have met with the president-elect, including Steve Harvey and Martin Luther King III. Tip had a conspiracy-esque explanation as to why Trump is bent on having these meetings. “[West] is [young people’s] representative,” T.I. said. “They listen to his music. They buy his shoes. They go see him in concert.” He continued on to critique Harvey’s meeting similarly. “You got black women, they were against [Trump]. Well, who speaks to the black women? Steve Harvey! Let’s get him in here. He’ll take a picture. He’ll smile. They’ll fall right in line.”
To T.I.’s point, Trump’s approval ratings with young people and black women are, and have been, atrocious. CNN exit polls from November’s general election show a whopping 94% of the black women polled preferred Hillary Clinton over Trump. In addition, age groups of 18-29 and 30-44 favored Clinton over Trump by a combined 29%.
