Stream Jidenna’s Debut Album, ‘The Chief,’ Here

Jidenna blasted onto the mainstream R&B scene last year, first on the heels of a captivating performance by Janelle Monae on “Yoga,” then with a scorching hit of his own, “Classic Man,” which invoked an obsession with Jidenna’s disarming charm and 24/7 suit-and-tie attire. Since then, the Nigerian-American’s flame has hardly diffused. Today, his proper debut album, The Chief, is out on Wondaland/Epic, and you can stream it below.

This is Jidenna’s first solo LP, but he was prominently featured on Wondaland’s compilation EP in 2015, The Eephus. That project included both “Yoga” and “Classic Man,” which were followed by stellar tracks like “Knickers,” “Long Live the Chief” and last summer’s “Little Bit More,” a well-timed dancehall-inspired record that perhaps should’ve charted higher than it did on the Hot 100.

Jidenna is joined on the project by members of Janelle Monae’s Wondaland collective, including Monae herself, Roman GianArthur and St. Beauty, and producers Best Kept Secret, Nana Kwabena, and more.
