Stars & Hype Forever: Bitches Is Crazy

Stars & Hype Forever is your in-depth guide to what’s next in hip hop. Each week we profile an artist you need to know about, and arm you with the essential artillery to decide if they’re the real deal, or just hype. To help readers make sense of the spectrum, curators Andriana and Yo! Adrian weigh in on each week’s talent, by assigning them a blanged out hypeability score at the very end.

For week two of S&H, we hit up the Bronx’s northside for a smoky shoot in Van Cortland Park with the rappers that form the group Bitches Is Crazy. We chopped it up with the Uptown Highlanders about their music, getting away with murder in NYC, and their infamous banger, “Yo Soy Widdit.” With talks of solo projects and a debut album in the works, B.I.C. have New York hip hop heads waiting with baited breath to see what they’ll do next. This is Stars & Hype Forever.

AKA: The D Generation X of Hip Hop, Uptown Highlanders, The Influence
Reppin’: Bronx, New York
Beginnings: The rap crew made up of Yesus199, Pete, Ill Spills, and Izzy-Oz formed from the shared bond among their Bitches Is Crazy crew. After years of friendship and rapping as a hobby, the crew found a true purpose after the tragic passing of a close friend. The rest is history.
The Hype: Known for witty, trash talking lyrics and wavy anthems over psych-splattered beats, B.I.C. have been credited with a new school meets old school style all their own. The group’s hit single “Yo Soy Widdit” off of 2013’s Influence mixtape caught some serious wind. The video for the track resonated with audiences outside the Bronx, earning them a spot in New York’s bubbling hip hop scene. As icing on the cake, the group’s energetic live performances ensure no matter the venue, the party gets turnt up.
