Snoop Dogg ‘Neva Left’ and the New Album Proves It

After teasing it for all of last month, Snoop Dogg finally dropped his 15th (!!) studio album, Neva Left. It’s a fusion of the iconic rapper’s sounds from across his lengthy career. One of the keys to longevity is constant evolution and Snoop has proved adept here. At a listening party for the album, the Long Beach rapper made his intentions clear: “What I wanted to do on this record—and it was a spontaneous move—was to make a record to engulf every phase of Snoop Dogg that you’ve heard over the last 25 years.” He does just that, capturing an entire career in one album, from his early West Coast G-funk to the more recent Snoop Lion phase. Features include the likes of KRS-One, Method Man, Redman, and Wiz Khalifa.

Snoop’s remix to BADBADNOTGOOD’s “Lavender” is also on there, which everyone remembers for the video where he pointed a pop gun at a Trump lookalike clown. The president himself commented on it with a tweet aimed directly at Snoop’s career, posted at 7 a.m. in the morning; as opposed to, say, taking his daily intelligence briefing.

It’ll be interesting to see if Neva Left is a win for Snoop’s “failing career,” despite his successful show with Martha Stewart and his ventures into other forms of media.
