Learn the Proper Way to Say “Let’s Get It” with Smokepurpp
The etymology of ESKEEETIIIT!!!
Smokepurpp, the South Florida rapper at the forefront of the region’s so-called “SoundCloud rap” boom, is very busy prepping to drop his DEADSTAR mixtape this week. But we convinced the “6 Rings” rapper to take a break from crafting viscous trippy anthems and stop by MASS APPEAL HQ to clear some things up.
If you’ve been listening closely you know Smokepurrp has a motivational catchphrase, a strange word that sounds something like “Let’s Get It.” And apparently, we’ve all been saying it wrong.
“ESK-EEE-TI-IIIT,” instructs Purpp during his minute-long tutorial session. He even goes up to the chalkboard like a real teacher’s pet.
Purpp would also like you to know the correct usage of the term. For the record, the term is not just limited intense situations. Sometimes, the first bite of a sandwich should be accentuated with the proper slang. “ESKEETIIIIT!” he screams as cold cuts accumulate in the background.
Purpp may be clowning around, but his ascent over the last year is to be taken seriously. His viral hits earned him a record deal from veteran hip hop exec Todd Moscowitz, who runs Alamo Records under the Interscope umbrella. Right about now DEADSTAR is looking like one of the year’s most highly anticipated rap projects. Before it arrives on Friday, familiarize yourself with Smokepurpp’s linguistic tutorial above, and then watch his episode of MASS APPEAL’s Open Space here.
