PREMIERE: Slugabed’s “Earth Is Gone Sorry” Video Sends Coded Message

Randomized bleeps drift like snow over a subtle, slowed-up two-step rhythm on “Earth Is Gone Sorry,” a track by London-based producer Slugabed. His scattered but comfortable fabric provides a bedding for translucent and apologetic vocals of Toronto’s Lum, whose voice is subtly altered by different pitches and reverb throughout.

The visuals, which MASS APPEAL premieres today, are made up of a slideshow of aimless Google image search results, touching on starving horses and graves, but also cartoon ducks and Windows XP wallpaper choices… Or so it would seem. In fact, the story of the video goes much deeper. Slugabed, whose born name is Greg Feldwick, told us he spent endless hours at the library researching the images: “It retells a crucial and poignant biblical verse that only old Christian type people would recognize, but in a coded format that only a young hip millennial could decipher. 10 points if you crack the code and discover the truth.”

“Earth Is Gone” is a track off his forthcoming album Inherit The Earth, due April 7 on Anticon Records.
