PREMIERE: Shateish “Hurt Away” ft. Rapsody (prod. by Nottz)

You might not know the name Shateish but she has been making some of your favorite tracks better for years. This rhythm & blues singer from Virginia has been the secret weapon of hitmaker Nottz since 2008, appearing on his work with Scarface, The Game, Pusha T and Blu. Her voice will remind you of that Stax-era soul. As Nottz puts it, “Shateish’s voice is so old school!” It’s got that sultry, syrupy quality that distinguishes many of the Southern soul greats.

MASS APPEAL is honored to give you your first taste of her Nottz-produced debut EP, The Re-Awakening. Shateish considers this project an experimental fusing of the blues and hip hop, and has dedicated it to underrated ’60s R&B singer Ruby Johnson. Below we are sharing the lead single titled “Hurt Away,” featuring North Carolina-born Jamla/Roc Nation artist Rapsody.
