Rich the Kid Takes All the “Cookies and Sherbert” in New Video

Rich the Kid is fresh off an impressive debut on the Billboard 200 chart with Rich Forever 3, the compilation project from his Rich Forever imprint, but his true loyalty lies with the dessert industry. Adorned by moody red and blue lights, Rich the Kid bops through his latest video, “Cookies and Sherbert,” an ode to his weed and lean diet.

“Cookies and Sherbert” is one of Rich’s more popular recent cuts, racking up over 330,000 streams on YouTube after its August release. Over an ominous bounce, Rich raps about his hedonistic lifestyle, dipping in and out of hazy frames with his dreads shaking and his friends lurking in the background.

The Atlanta rapper drops the video at an interesting time, considering the conversation—rejuvenated by the Russ earlier this week—swirling around rappers’ promotion of lean in their lyrics. The argument’s been made that there’s a deeper, more traumatic origin of hip hop’s romanticization of drug abuse, but also that there are artists that take advantage of the impressionability of their listeners.

Which side of that debate do you think Rich the Kid falls on? You can watch the “Cookies and Sherbert” video above. Also check out his recent Open Space interview for MASS APPEAL, below.
