Remember When King Kong Took Naomi Watts Ice Skating in Central Park?

Kong: Skull Island is low-key a steaming pile of garbage (more on that later), but if anything, it made one thing absolutely clear for me: I’m now confident in saying that I fucking love Peter Jackson’s King Kong from 2005. Yes, the version starring Jack Black. There’s certainly a lot to complain about with Skull Island, but my biggest gripe is that even though the new Kong is tremendous in terms of size (and CGI effects), he doesn’t even have a fraction of the romantic sensibilities as the big(-hearted) ape I fell in love with 12 years ago.

Like, do you remember that scene where King Kong and Naomi Watts rendezvous in New York City and he straight up takes her ice skating in Central Park? Look how joyous he is. My man is sliding out of control on that ice because that’s what you do when you’re in love. She’s not even wearing a coat in the middle of fucking winter because who needs an overcoat when you’re burning with love? This scene puts Serendipity to shame.
