Puff Daddy is an Addict, Meet His Art Dealer Maria Brito
It's all about the Jean-Michels, baby!
Have you ever wondered how Diddy chooses the art he hangs in his many vestibules the world around? If not, you’re probably a homebody who doesn’t delve to deeply into the nexus that is the Internet. However, if you were pondering this— on some Pinky & the Brain shiz— then this bud’s for you. The Daily Beast’s Justin Jones has got the scoop on Diddy’s dealer, Maria Brito, a legal beagle who tossed care to the air and made the move to art dealer:
Brito abandoned her position at one of New York’s prestigious law firms and started her own consulting business, Lifestyling by Maria Brito, offering her services to those who don’t have the time or expertise to find great works of art. Within a year, she had signed on Combs and Gwyneth Paltrow, as well as celebrity fitness guru Tracy Anderson, as her clients.
Diddy is by far the most interesting of her clients, and from what she had to say to The Daily Beast, he may be her favorite to work for and with. We all remember the infamous “Puffy et la Jaconde” or Puffy’s selfie at the Louvre with the Mona Lisa,
It’s safe to say “Poppa Diddy Pop” has had a hankering for some fine art, for some time. Like most celebs with packed schedules, Diddy may not necessarily have the time to scour the globe or annals of art history for pieces that are both potentially lucrative and cater to his aesthetic tastes, AT THE SAME DAMN TIME. That’s where Maria comes in,
“I don’t want to take credit for bringing him into the art world,” Brito told The Daily Beast, “but before me he didn’t really have any art.”
She notes that before meeting her, Diddy’s collection was comprised solely of pieces he acquired when ever he… acquired a new home. Oh, the struggle. Under Brito’s guide, however, Puff has since scooped up 30 pieces, including works by some of his favorite artists like Tracey Emin, Ai Weiwei, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Puffy has even gone out on his own to cop joints independently.
Head over to The Daily Beast to hear more of Maria Brito’s story, as well as how Diddy compares to the rest of her top tier clients.
