PREMIERE: UG Vavy “Bussin'”

Not many rappers can also claim to be nurses but Chicago rapper UG Vavy holds both titles. Now that he’s passed the standardized test to work as a nurse, he drops off his latest, addictive loosie “Bussin’,” which we are premiering today.

For UG, “Bussin’” is a track used to uplift our partying spirits. “Bussin’ is basically a song for the city; whenever a move was lit we would say it’s bussin’,” he says. UG first started producing when he was 13-years-old, and picked up rapping when he was 15. Since then, he’s started engineering as well.

On the self-produced “Bussin’,” UG flaunts his entire musical wheelhouse while flexing his nursing background, just in case you didn’t get the memo: “They say beauty’s skin deep / Let me see your cerebellum,” he raps, later adding, “Got an A in testin’, just like a colon.” He dials back some of the heavier vocal manipulations found in his other songs like “Sport It” and “Gwap,” allowing his voice to appear more organic. While the melody and lyrics are simple, the track is hauntingly catchy and damn near anthemic with a palette of clever analogies (“When I hit it from the back, give her goosebumps / Call me R.L. Stine”), a full bass, and luxurious harmonies. UG is part of the new Chicago-based group Fight Me, along with rapper Supa Bwe and producer Shepard Hues.
