PREMIERE: Nick Grant “For Love”
Behold, a lyrically gifted young MC who does it for all the right reasons
“I’m cut from that cloth, we ain’t fabricating shit,” Nick Grant intones on “For Love,” the latest release from a South Carolina spitter blessed with a lyrical gift beyond his years. He titled his last mixtape 88 because that’s the year he was born, yet his rhymes evoke the lyrical sophistication and master craftsmanship of records cut during one of hip hop’s greatest years. Hailing from Walterboro, South Carolina—population 5,000—Grant made a splash in Atlanta reeling out rhymes like an old soul speaking through young flesh. Along the way he caught the ears of such luminaries as Messrs Benjamin & Jones, got signed by Jason Geter, and landed a deal with Epic Records. Today we premiere a joint that flips Bobby Caldwell’s soul masterpiece into a moody twilight zone within which Nick catches wreck. Listen up.
