PREMIERE: Eamon “Before I Die”

There are one-hit wonders that we all agree were lucky to get that one hit. Then there are those artists who only have one single that really catches on, but when they disappear, we all think, what happened to so and so? Well, Eamon is in the latter group—except that we know what happened to him.

After nearly a decade of silence since his #1 hit record “Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back),” he started popping up on sincere, emotional hip hop tracks by the likes of R.A. the Rugged Man, Vinnie Paz, and Vinnie’s crew, Jedi Mind Tricks. Gone was the fresh-faced kid who managed to swear six times on the hook of his big hit, and in his place was a smokey-voiced, soulful crooner we wanted to hear more from. This past April he dropped the first single from his upcoming album, Golden Rail Motel. The cut is titled “Be My Girl” and is a throwback in the best possible way. It’s jazzy, funky, and Eamon is clearly putting his heart into every word.

Today MASS APPEAL is proud to bring you his brand new single, “Before I Die.” The track plays out like a crime movie, with Eamon campaigning the lady in question (and maybe the fans too) to show him some love…before he dies. His tale concerns big debts, desperate moves, and a hail of bullets. Sonically, it is basically a simple guitar lick highlighted by a light dusting of percussion, occasional horn flares, and a hard snare. Nonetheless, that is plenty for Eamon to belt out this story about facing a grim fate.

Eamon’s new album Golden Rail Motel drops September 15th, 2017.
