PREMIERE: DJ Spinna Presents “The Wonders of Stevie Vol. 3”
Check out this collection of rare and classic Stevie Wonder covers.
When you have every Stevie album and a rare single or two, you are a Stevie Wonder enthusiast. With that in mind, we would have to title a fanatic like DJ Spinna a Stevland Hardaway Judkins historian. Not only did Stevie’s soulful sounds inspire Spinna to get into music, he has paid respect to the legend every chance he has got since then. Case in point, he started throwing Stevie-centric parties called Wonder-Full in 1999. These tribute jams became the place to be and it wasn’t long until the man himself showed up! Now, a close personal friend of the Motown’s youngest ever signee, Spinna has continued honoring Mr. Wonder by curating a series of compilations called The Wonder of Stevie that gather rare covers and songs most listeners won’t know he wrote.
Spinna has included a wide array of musicians and sounds on the third installment of this audiophile’s must-have series, from icons of the music industry like Quincy Jones (“Betcha Wouldn’t Hurt Me”), Billy Preston (“It’s My Pleasure”) and the Jackson 5 (“Buttercup”), to the more modern fare of acts like The Foreign Exchange (“If She Breaks Your Heart”), Jrod Indigo (“Go Home”), and Reel People (“Golden Lady”).
One listen should have you hooked on these 16 full-flavored tracks that range from the porn funk of East St. Louis Gospelettes’ “Have A Talk With God”, to the Latin spin Sunlightsquare put on “Pastime Paradise”, to the chill horns of John Minni’s “Big Bone Band’s Love Is In Need of Love Today”, to the rare groove classic “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” by Peru’s Black Sugar outfit.
