PREMIERE: Daniel Son x Milano Constantine “Ice Water”
TCOR on the beat
There’s something new happening out here and if you ain’t keeping an ear to the ground, that’s your problem. It’s easy to complain about what you get hand-fed, but not many are willing to take the time to search out the raw uncut. Daniel Son brings that rawness. The Toronto lyricist has been lacing his steadily-growing audience with releases since 2014. However, it’s his more recent material with UK outfit Crate Divizion that has really started to garner the emcee notoriety. His recent drop with prolific beatsmith Giallo Point titled Remo Gaggi (named for the character from Casino), as well as their previous collab The Gunners and his verses on the Crate Divizion’s Division Rivals, have certified his spit as weapon-grade. Tastemakers and crate diggers are already well aware of dun. It’s your turn.
Today’s premiere, Ice Water, is exactly what your summer weekend needs. It’s some easy-to-listen-to hard shit. Like a graceful crane kick to the ear. Daniel Son’s raps will remind you of when emcees melted mics, not mumbled on them. And Milano splashes razors all over this joint, making it seem effortless. His distinct nasally flow is always a welcome addition to any track. The Custodian of Records’ production kills it with a mello, almost hypnotic loop, but don’t let it fool you, paired with unrelenting hi-hats and clipped snares, this beat demands bars.
