Porn Stars Promote Photographer’s Instant Film Book On Kickstarter

Nate “Igor” Smith leads a terrible life. For years, the photographer and proprietor of the provocative website Driven By Boredom, has been making a name for himself by taking pictures of lots and lots of beautiful naked women. He has also shot some celebrities and Juggalos, but who cares about his full resume, this dude gets to conduct risqué photo shoots with the likes of Carter Cruise and other notable adult film actresses.

For his latest crowd-sourced project on Kickstarter, Smith is looking to to publish “Instaxxx,” a book of mostly nude instant film photos. To help promote the endeavor, he recruited some of the loyal ladies who will appear in it, and asked them to pitch the concept in a video, which they did, bloopers and all. And so far it seems to be working. Smith has already raised over $1,000, putting him closer to his $2,500 goal. If funded, this would be the third book published by the lucky-ass lensman. For Smith, the book of Instax photos — think wide format Poloroids of much higher quality — is taking him back to his roots.

“When I was 19, my girlfriend was leaving town for a month and she had an idea,” writes the photographer on his Kickstarter page. “This was a time before sexting and Skype, so she bought me a plastic Barbie Polaroid camera and told me I could take naked photos of her before she left so that I wouldn’t cheat on her. These photos were some of the first naked photos I ever took and those early memories created a lifelong love for nude photography on instant film.”

Carter Cruise tells Mass Appeal why Smith’s style of photos appeal to her. “What I love about Igor’s work is his ability to capture female nudity in the most natural way,” explains Cruise. “You might see boobs or a vagina, but it’s not dirty. It’s provocative but casual. He normalizes female sexuality while still conveying its allure and his appreciation for it.”

Porn star and photographer Kimberly Kane echoed a similar sentiment. “Igor has a great eye and falls into the most interesting situations to share with the world,” says Kane. “What I admire most is his obsessive drive to shoot every day. His photography isn’t just an awesome job it’s a way of life. I think most photographers shoot to work, he shoots to live.”

You can check out the Kickstarter here for all the details, but then don’t be surprised if you find yourself questioning your own existence and career path… it’s totally natural.
