Another Day, Another Nazi Cop Investigation

One day after Trump told a room full of cops that roughing up people was an acceptable thing to do in our alleged civil society, it seems there’s an investigation by cops into a fellow cop in Washington, D.C., to see if he’s a Nazi. Happy 2017!

According to Law4BlackLives, a legal collective in the D.C. area that represents the interests of Black Lives Matter, The Metropolitan Police Department officer in question, Vincent Altieri, has been spotted numerous times by the group wearing a white supremacist T-shirt.

NBC4 wrote of the shirt:

The T-shirt shown in a photo says “Powershift Seventh District.” A Celtic cross stands in the place of the letter O. The symbol is used by white supremacist groups including the Ku Klux Klan, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

The shirt shows a skeleton holding a rifle and the MPD shield, with the D.C. flag as a backdrop. Below the image is the words “Let me see that waistband jo.”

“This shirt is offensive and indicates systemic bias in the policing of people of color,” Law4BlackLives said in a statement. “White supremacy and insinuated threats of death should never be associated with or tolerated in police departments who are sworn to protect and serve.”

MPD Police Chief Peter Newsham said in a statment, “This is disgraceful and does not represent the hard working and committed officers of the Seventh District.”

“The message conveyed on the t-shirt does not represent MPD’s values,” the police department said in a tweeted statement. “We understand the trust of the community is critical to our ongoing work and take seriously any incidents that may undermine the confidence the community has in our members.”

The investigation is running concurrent with an online petition to have the officer fired which already has well over a few thousand signatures.

This isn’t the first time there’s been reports of police officers in America having Nazi or white supremacists ties. In fact more than ten years ago the F.B.I. warned that there could be a huge problem with white supremacists and Nazi groups infiltrating law enforcement agencies.

In Philadelphia this year, a cop with Nazi tattoo was allowed to remain on the job because the department did’t have a specific policy against Nazi tattoos, which it has since changed.

Thanks, Trump!
