Phife Dawg’s Posthumous Album Slated For 2017 Release

On Saturday, thousands of fans showed up to the corner of Linden Blvd. and 192nd Street in Queens to watch a sizable stretch of Linden Blvd. get renamed Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor Way. It was a fitting cherry on top of a wild 8-day stretch for the group, who’d released their chart-topping final album, We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service, on November 11. At the festivities, Phife’s wife, Desha Taylor, revealed that her late husband’s first posthumous solo album would be out next year.

We’ve already received a taste of what to expect from the album; shortly after Phife’s death, a music video of his, “Nutshell,” was liberated, as was news that a solo album was coming. Speaking to Okayplayer, Taylor had this to say about the progress of the project, “His solo album will be out probably sometime during the first quarter of 2017. We’re working on it now.” She elaborated, “He completed his entire solo album before he transitioned, so we’re excited about releasing that.”

Phife’s last and only solo album, Ventilation: Da LP, was released in 2000, spawning minor hits like “Bend Ova” and “Flawless.”
