Watch The Throne? Obama Crowned King on Spike Lee x Rocksmith Tee

With the presidential election just around the corner Rocksmith and Spike Lee’s 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks have collaborated to create a curious piece of pro-Barack memorabilia. The tee features features an image of the POTUS against a red background rocking a tilted crown similar to Barron Claiborne’s classic photo of the Notorious B.I.G. with the words “Watch the Throne” beneath it.

We can’t say that we co-sign this tee for a couple of reasons: First when we think “Watch the Throne” we think of Kanye West and Jay-Z,  who’re really talented rappers and savvy businessmen but not definitely leaders of the free world. Then there’s the Claiborne rip inspiration. The tilted crown made sense for Biggie, the “Black Frank White” aka “The King of New York,” but with this tee we’re confused about what Barack Obama is supposed to be the king of. Is he the king of America? The king of D.C.? The king of not being Mitt Romney? Though we hold the POTUS in high regard we’re pretty sure that he’s a democratically-elected official and not a monarch. We’ve got love for Rocksmith and Spike but they need to go back to the drawing board with this one.
