Nike SB x Nigel Sylvester Dunk High “S.O.M.P.”
Nike SB's innaugural collab with a BMX rider is chromed out with freshness.
It seems like Nike SB is putting forth a serious effort to return to its glory days. Recent years have seen the skateboarding branch of the biggest shoe conglomerate sheepishly hunker behind its other prominent divisions, reflected in the SB kicks frequenting sales racks more often than not. However, the SB team is attempting to breathe new life back into the company. The recent drop of the Diamond Dunk High surely had to make even the OGs think “they’re baaaack.” After all, the Tiffanys crashed the Internet and left a lot of sneakerheads out in the cold feeling saltier than the wintry streets of NYC.
Enter phase two of the revamp, with the upcoming release of the Nike SB x Nigel Sylvester Dunk High “S.O.M.P.” The collaboration marks the first time Nike SB has teamed up with a BMX rider as opposed to one that skates, and the first Dunk Pro Model that holds some serious weight in quite a while. It’s not unusual to find Sylvester ripping the streets in some rare SB heat either, which makes for the perfect harmony of sport and steez.
Sylvester had a steady hand in designing this Dunk, putting all the right touches in what makes for a simple but impressive shoe. The Queens rider’s iteration predominantly decks out the classic silhouette in a euphoria nubuck upper, with hits of safari print over the eyelets and around the collar, iced out with a chrome swoosh for added flair, all atop a white midsole/gum sole combination. Unique “S.O.M.P.” (Standing On My Pedals) and Sylvester’s signature are branded on the insoles.
Nike SB is back, and Nigel Sylvester’s Dunk is just the tip of the iceberg. The Nike SB x Nigel Sylvester “S.O.M.P” Dunk High is set to hit retailers on March 8th.
