Nas Run The Jewels

Nas Surprises Fans at Run The Jewels Event, Drops New J Dilla-Produced Track “The Season”

The Mass Appeal crew headed out to Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn to celebrate the release of Killer Mike and El-P’s Run The Jewels 2. The event included a special screening of The Warriors, as well as a Q&A with the dudes. Things were going surprisingly smooth, when out came Nas to congratulate Mike and Jamie on their recent success.

However, his appearance wasn’t the only surprise he had in store, as he went on to drop a new track titled “The Season.”

Rhyming over J Dilla’s timeless “Gobstopper” beat, Nas waxes poetic about being a hip hop king unable to enjoy the fruits of his spoils, for various reasons. There’s a line in which he denounces that Jay Electronica or Jay Z write his rhymes, while clarifying that one of the major influences on his material is his brother Jungle. Nas also proves he’s been keeping his ear to the streets, dropping a reference to OG Maco’s “U Guessed It.”

No word on when this will drop, but we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, if you’ve been living under a massive boulder, check out Run The Jewels new album, RTJ2 here.

The official version of “The Season” just dropped! Take a listen to the track below.
