New Music From Aminé and Missy Elliott, Secret Circle, Buddy and More

Just because you blinked while you were thumbing through your apps doesn’t mean you should miss one of the many musical gems that come out every single day. We’re here to make your life a little easier and to make it sound a whole lot better with “The Listening Room,” our daily roundup of the new songs you need to hear.

Secret Circle
“Tube Socks”
Producer: Dylan Brady

Secret Circle is one of the most exciting rap groups to emerge this past year. Made up by underground luminaries Antwon, Wiki of Ratking and Lil Ugly Mane, “Tube Socks” is the group’s first release since “Satellite,” which dropped in January. Tube Socks is a more turnt up jam that sounds like an eerier take on New York Drill. All three verses stack up well against each other, but I’m most impressed by Lil Ugly Mane, who spits, “Secret circle that’s the gang/ Hitting a stain on the industry/ Underground fame getting paid so efficiently/ S-C the trilogy/ Hoes they be feelin’ me/ In my tube socks putting rappers in a guillotine.” God damn Mane that rhyme scheme was fucking ill. –Lei Takanashi

Aminé
“REDMERCEDES (Remix)” f/ Missy Elliott & AJ Tracey
Producer: Malay

We were big fans of Aminé’s “REDMERCEDES” and its accompanying music video (shoutout to Quincy’s Auto Group) when it dropped in early April. Today, the Portland born rapper shares a hyphy remix of the track featuring London spitter AJ Tracey and a standout verse from the one and only Missy Elliott. During the electronic tinged rework, Aminé takes the time to pay respect to the queen, rapping, “Missy like my auntie/ Dreads like a palm tree/ Girls give me shots when I play them Ashanti.” This is definitely one to ride out to this weekend.  –Kyle Petreycik

Buddy
“A Lite”
Producer: Kaytranada

On his return project, Compton rapper Buddy flaunts a variety of styles, from displaying the sensitive spiritual strength that made “Shine” an inescapable jam earlier this year, to offering the finesse of “A Lite,” a bonafide party starter that begins with the simple conundrum of being lighter-less in the summery air of the left coast. His flow and cadence sticks to the simple beat like glue, giving the listener the opportunity to let their shoulders bounce from beginning to end. Five years in the kitchen and Buddy’s concoctions are smoother than they’ve ever been. –Khari Nixon

Sappy
“its a secret [minitape#2] – MAKING A PAUSE”

Parisian producer Sappy dropped “another short tape made with love” just a few hours ago. It’s the enigmatic beatmaker’s second bite-sized collection of instrumentals boiled down to a single track. Each segment in the short “tape” flawlessly blends together without coming off as repetitive, bringing together samples from Spongebob with some tasty rhythm guitars and lo-fi vibes. –KP

Dre Kiken
“POV”
Producers: Hellion x Fifty Grand

I’ve had my eye on Fifty Grand’s SoundCloud for a minute. Today the producer behind tracks from both XXXTentacion and BONES links up with Hellion and R&B artist Dre Kiken for a syrupy and pitched down track that fits for any late night encounters you may have this weekend. Just remember to wrap it up y’all! –KP
