New Music From Michael Christmas, PnB Rock, Majid Jordan and More

Just because you blinked while you were thumbing through your apps doesn’t mean you should miss one of the many musical gems that come out every single day. We’re here to make your life a little easier and to make it sound a whole lot better with The Listening Room, our daily roundup of the new songs you need to hear.

Michael Christmas
“Top Turnbuckle” f/ OG Swaggerdick
Producer: James Rogers

Frequent collaborators and friends Michael Christmas and OG Swaggerdick come together like the Dudley Boyz and 3D the rap game through a flaming table. “Top Turnbuckle” is full of wrestling references and puns, as Christmas and Swaggerdick drop bars that’ll make any casual Monday Night RAW viewer smile. Plus, with lyrics like, “We can get it tag team or three way, through the table off the ladder on the freeway,” this might be one of the best verses OG Swaggerdick ever dropped.  Khristen Wilson

Steve Aoki
“Night Call” f/ Migos & Lil Yachty

“Molly, Xans and all.” Dim Mak founder, producer and artist Steve Aoki tapped young ATL stars Migos and Lil Yachty for “Night Call,” the follow up to April’s “Without You” single that featured 2 Chainz. With Aoki’s upcoming Kolony record coming “soon”, its becoming clear that the project will have a hip hop focus, with additional features from Gucci Mane, Lil Uzi Vert as well as the OG Ma$e.  Yachty’s Auto-Tuned vocals may carry this track, but we know y’all really came through for those fresh Migos bars. As Quavo says, “Steve Aoki throw the cake/ I wanna throw me a pie.” Kyle Petreycik

Majid Jordan

Majid Jordan’s eerie dance utopia has made them one of R&B and pop’s most intriguing acts. Their tranquil auras are often juxtaposed against rhythms that beg you to move. On “One I Want,” the OVO group approaches their delivery with a sharper cadence, nearly breaking out into a full-blown rap. It’s the perfect companion PARTYNEXTDOOR’s genre-blending antics. Khari Nixon

PnB Rock
Producers: 1Mind and CP Dubb

Apparently PnB Rock flipping the “Unforgettable” freestyle was just the start. Today he dropped “Time,” a new dancehall tune produced by 1Mind (half of the production team behind “Unforgettable”) and CP Dubb. That “Unforgettable” freestyle is doing pretty well. That warbled parsing of feelings seems to have taken root. I’m hearing it bumping out of cars, it’s the second most played track on SoundCloud this week and his YouTube is over three milli. I’m not above admitting I’m wrong, with a few more listens it caught me too. That track goes. So it’s cool to see the Philly artist now give an official effort. The “Time” riddim isn’t as fluid, with percussion that stops and starts, and a bassline that lurches. But with the steel pans, it all swings around each other, creating a type of gravity for PnB to hold onto. This time, he’s pleading his case to a girl he cheated on and is promising to be a better man. He leans in on the hook, hitting spiked highs and some surprising notes. He also throws in some stuttered delivery, words doubled at the end of each line, a cue possibly taken from Travis Scott’s “the ends.” Definitely worth a few listens. —Mike Steyels
