MC Lyte Returns With “Dear John” ft. Common

MC Lyte was honored with an “I Am Hip Hop Award” at the last BET Awards f0r her achievements in the genre, and it seems that the time is now for MC Lyte to interrupt her 11-year hiatus and show and prove that she can keep achieving in the industry. MC Lyte is back, ladies and gentlemen, and you won’t be disappointed. This joint perfectly balances a modern feel with Lyte’s signature style.

The Common-featuring “Dear John” instantly set Twitter alight when it dropped. The track is an open letter to braggadocios men and gives a throwback nod to Puffy’s “It’s All About The Benjamins” with “You wanna be ballas, shot-callers, dippin’ in the Benz straight lawless?/ Or, would you rather be fathers to your daughters, even though it’s getting harder?

According to Billboard:

“John” serves as the official anthem of #EducateOURMen, the scholarship arm of the rapper’s Hip Hop Sisters Network. The track will also appear in the Saturday episode of the Centric documentary series Being, which will profile the performer. Immediately after the episode airs, MC Lyte will conduct a live-streamed Q&A with fans.

We can expect a new album from Ms. Lyte-As-A-Rock some time this year, and this will act as the first single.
