These Comic Book Artists Created Some Great Posters For “Logan”

It can’t be that easy to market a superhero movie these days, but the folks behind Logan, the final X-Men film starring Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, seem to have a solid handle on it.

Starting off with some very different trailers than we’re used to seeing for these films, the buzz around the film has already gone from cautiously optimistic to unabashedly jubilant. Further underscoring the idea that the team behind Logan is willing to take roads less traveled is their new marketing stunt — six acclaimed comic book artists have created alternative posters in their distinct styles, currently on display in six domestic movie theaters that correspond to the journey Wolverine actually takes in the film.

Art Adams’ work can be found at Cinemark 20 and XD in El Paso, Texas,

Nate Powell’s at Regal Spotlight Stadium 14 in Norman, Oklahoma,

Becky Cloonon’s at Warren East in Wichita, Kansas,

Jeff Lemire’s at Grand Island 7 in Grand Island, Nebraska,

Babs Tarr’s at Carmike 10 in Rapid City, South Dakota,

and Bill Sienkiewicz’s at the Grand 6 in Williston, North Dakota.

You can snag one of those limited edition posters yourself by ordering tickets to the movie through Atom, while supplies last.

This is all in addition to the great IMAX poster created by artist Dave Rapoza released earlier this year.

Just like the trailers, these posters help establish an atmosphere unlike anything seen in earlier superhero films. The bit of “found footage” of Laura Kinney (the girl Wolverine protects in the post-apocalyptic world of Logan) uploaded earlier this week sets off a creepy vibe as well, and is certainly a lot more interesting than most movie marketing material.

Babs Tarr also released a peek behind the scenes of the creation of her poster, and Becky Cloonan proudly posed with the end result, and deservedly so.

Logan hits theaters on March 3.
