Logan Cage “Everything’s Alright” ft. Saba
Chicago's best kept secret spreads positivity for the summer
As Chicago undergoes a renaissance, Logan Cage remains one of the city’s best kept secrets. From the west side of the city, he’s been a staple in the local scene for years, using music as a tactic to ground himself and stay off the streets. His background doesn’t lack hardship: His brother FEO was tragically murdered in 2013 and Logan’s world changed, using his anger and pain to fuel his creativity and ambition. Logan was then involved in a drive-by shooting last summer; all of these circumstances have deeply informed his music.
With “Everything’s Alright,” off his slated EP Cage: The New Wave, he shows progress and a glimmer of hope. While a majority of his previous work is more sparse, somber, and syncopated, “Everything’s Alright” is bouncier, and incredibly more melodic and lush. Logan taps fellow west side Chicago rapper Saba for the feature, and while the two have markedly different flows and aesthetics, they effortlessly come together, letting us know not to stress so much.
