Listen to Chris Brown’s New Track, “What Would You Do?”
Standoff with LAPD one day, a new song the next. What a life.
The split opinions on Chris Brown that rage in the media and on gossip sites year-round are on incredible display this week and today he released a new song, titled “What Would You Do?”
Since his 2009 altercation with Rihanna, Chris has been unable to shed his bad boy image, and over time it’s become clear that he has no will to. On social media, he’s outrageously vulgar–delightfully so, in the eyes of his fans–and he allegedly attacked openly-gay singer Frank Ocean with a group of friends. (Ocean says homophobic epithets were involved.)
On the other hand, Brown once broke down into tears during a scintillating Michael Jackson tribute at the BET Awards. His on-and-off girlfriend Karrueche Tran praised his character up until their split. He won the music world back over in 2011 when he won the Best Contemporary R&B Album Grammy for F.A.M.E. His legal and personal troubles never made his career’s cup runneth over, and so whenever Chris Brown decides to hit the scene again, he’s welcomed with open arms.
Yesterday, Brown ended an hours-long standoff with Los Angeles Police and members of the SWAT team after he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun inside his home. He would be arrested and released on $250,000 bail.
Today, Brown has released “What Would You Do?” to Soundcloud. The song isn’t a hypothetical inquiry about what his fans would do if they found themselves in a situation as precarious as a standoff as a celebrity R&B singer. Rather, it questions a girl’s decision to take a chance on the Grammy winner.
Talk about a dichotomy. Listen to it below.
