Lil Uzi Vert Drops Official “XO” Video, Debuts at No. 1 with ‘Luv is Rage 2’

Lil Uzi Vert strung fans along for several months as he teased his Luv is Rage 2 album, the sequel to his 2015 star-turning mixtape, but now that it’s finally here, he’s more than made up for that elusiveness. Not only has the Philly star notched the first No. 1 Billboard debut of his career, but he’s finally released the official—like, officially official—music video for “XO Tour Llif3,” easily one of the year’s most ubiquitous hits.

The video, directed by celebrity fashion designer Virgil Abloh, heavily differs from the original “XO Tour Llif3” clip which, to be frank, wasn’t much of a video at all. With help from Nav, The Weeknd, Spike Jordan and more, Uzi finally delivers the track’s proper, purple-filtered visual. Clearly representing the romantically morbid nature of the song itself, the video finds Uzi rapping the song’s first verse while laying casually in a pool of blood that may or may not be his own. In another shot, the face of a bloodied and smiling woman looks up into the camera cryptically. Later, Uzi wets his finger with blood—tasting it first—to scribble an ominous message on a wall before falling unconscious.

Uzi delivered Luv is Rage 2 on August 25, and on Tuesday—a day later, courtesy of the Labor Day holiday—it officially debuted atop the Billboard 200, becoming his first ever chart-topper. Luv is Rage 2 isn’t just his first No. 1, it’s the first time he’s debuted a project higher than No. 37 (his April 2016 vs. The World tape). He reached the top spot with a first-week album-equivalent performance of roughly 135,000 units, about 15,000 more than last week’s projections predicted.
