Kanye West Hospitalized, Placed on Psychiatric Hold in Los Angeles
Despite the circumstances, Kris Jenner says her son-in-law is "good"
Less than 24 hours after officially cancelling the remaining dates on his Saint Pablo tour, Kanye West was hospitalized and placed on a psychiatric hold in Los Angeles, per The Associated Press.
The announcement of the tour’s cancellation came before noon yesterday and just before 2 p.m., LAPD officials investigating a “disturbance” visited Kanye in West Hollywood. The visit occurred without incident, but West’s situation was subsequently declared a “medical emergency.” The Chicago rapper willingly went to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment. A source reportedly told People that West is “exhausted,” while his mother-in-law Kris Jenner added that despite the circumstances, her daughter’s husband is “good.” According to the LA Times, West was “medically stable” when he was brought to UCLA. Adding to the oddity of the situation, before he went in for treatment, he updated his Instagram for the first time since his debut Total Recall post, with a bunch of blurry product photos.
The cancellation of the tour was a shock to some, but those that have followed West’s on-stage antics over the last couple weeks shouldn’t be surprised. Initially, the second leg of the tour was rescheduled after Kim Kardashian West was robbed at gunpoint in Paris in early October. After taking a few days to tend to his wife, West reembarked on the trek, but used his time on stage to suggest that he was at odds with Jay Z and Beyonce, praise Donald Trump’s political tactics, and denounce radio.
On October 20 in Seattle, he ranted to a crowd about his lack of communication with Jay and Saturday night in Sacramento, he brought Bey and Trump into the mix before abruptly storming off the stage. A makeup concert was scheduled for the following night in Los Angeles, but that was cancelled just hours before doors were scheduled to open.
