Kanye West adidas Yeezy release

Kanye West: MY adidas

“Creativity is my oxygen. I have to create. And I don’t care how crazy I look to anyone, as long as I can make the best product for all of you … So in June, we’ll see the new Yeezys”

Kanye West dropped a bomb on the sneaker world earlier today at the adidas Global Brand Conference when he announced the details on his first release with the company. Giving the equivalent of a TED talk (check out the full speech above) on the importance of being able to create without limits and making his art tangible through product, Kanye gave one of his most clear and concise speeches in recent memory – aka he didn’t rant.

Nice try Kanye. We all know you’re one of the most competitive dudes in the game, especially when it comes to bragging rights (see: leather jogging pants and pumpkins with champagne in them). You saw your boy P on SNL with two Liberaces on his happy feet and decided you just HAD to upstage by announcing your release. Sure, this has probably been scheduled for weeks, but it’s all a little too convenient.

If this June release actually goes down, my guess is that Ye will push adidas for a drop on June 8, which is his birthday. However, it also happens to be a Sunday, so maybe June 7 is a better guess. Another important thing to note is that since Nike was the first to release a “Yeezy,” adidas may have to change the name of the sneakers to avoid any potential legal issues, which explains the rumors floating around that Kanye’s new kicks will be dubbed “Yeezis.”

Yeah, like adding an “i” to a product has ever worked for anyone before.
