PREMIERE: Justo The MC x The Lost Info “Hoodie Season”
Brooklyn and Toronto connect for this one
For many Justo brings to mind the man behind the Mixtape Awards who passed away in 2005. However, like the rest of his name makes crystal clear, this Justo raps. In fact, this hungry word-wielder raps his ass off. Toronto production outfit The Lost Info (Ol Man 80zz, Futurewave & Blanxx) noticed Justo’s talent and built with the confident young man. The product of these conversations is a full album that dropped in early August titled Epiphany: The Lost Project.
Today MASS APPEAL is premiering the video for Justo’s tribute to Trayvon Martin…or more accurately his protest song against being judged based on color and apparel. Just like people are taking a knee in solidarity with Kapernick and his stance, in “Hoodie Season” Justo is suggesting we put the hoodie up to show we are against racial profiling and knee-jerk stereotyping. This Brooklyn b-boy kicks a variety of cadences, which he changes up effotlessly at will and mid-verse. The Ol Man 80zz’ beat is classic jazz hop (other than the modern hi-hats). A vintage organ paired with a wailing sax creates a lavish soundscape. The video is black and white and utilizes an assortment of filters and fades. The Gershwin Park and Linden Projects filming locations and the community turnout for the protest scenes show Justo is out here. Even if you ain’t got a hoodie on, play this loud in support of the message.
