PREMIERE: Jos Rockwell “Trailblazer”
Clypto on the beat
We have started to notice something about hip-hop coming out of Massachusetts – Boston is far from the only city in the state producing quality hip-hop. There’s Lawrence, the home of Termanology, Reks, and Al Divino. Lynn is where C Wells and the Tragic Allies (Estee Nack, Code 9, Paranom, Purpose) lay their hats. DJ Manipulator & Louie Gonz, who also have a premiere with us today, reside in Worcester. And last but not least, Jos Rockwell is from Framingham. You can be excused for not knowing any of those burgs, unless you’re from Murda Mass.
Now, as much as Jos reps for Free Medina (aka Framingham), he also throws up the Ls proudly. Yep, as his brand new Stadium series Polo gear may have tipped you off, this MC is a Lo-Life from the MA chapter. Turns out he is a legacy member as his pops joined in the ‘00s and goes by Moose Lo. For those unaware, the Lo-Life boosting-turned-collecting crew not only have chapters across the US, but also around the world. However, in the case of Framingham, there is a very direct connection. Lo-Life co-founder Thirstin Howl The 3rd has siblings that live in Free Medina and they brought that Polo lifestyle with them.
Today we are giving you your first listen of “Trailblazer,” the second single off Jos and Cali producer Clypto’s as-yet-untitled album. If you ain’t heard the first leak, “Cedez,” start there. Once you’ve checked off that prerequisite, we’re granting you access to the new heat below. The soulful production on “Trailblazer” gets covered in a dense layer of wordplay, and by the end of the second verse you’ll wonder how this spitter manages to pack that much fly verbiage into two and half minutes. You’re gonna need a second listen to even catch half the bars.
