John Legend is “Disappointed” With Kanye, Says Trump Used Him As Publicity Stunt
John Legend, a long-time Kanye collaborator, calls out his colleague and friend
John Legend, who first rode onto the charts on the back of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label imprint, has something to say about whatever-the-fuck happened yesterday in Trump Tower involving the two whatever-the-fuck people of the moment, Kanye West and Donald Trump.
Speaking with French outlet Clique, Legend expressed disappointment in Kanye’s apparent endorsement and recent meeting with Donald Trump, admitting that he understands the need for discussion, but “I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. And I think Kanye was a publicity stunt. I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump.” If you haven’t heard, yesterday, Kanye was seen meeting with Trump in the lobby of Trump tower, where the two posed for pictures and affirmed their personal relationship for the media. As far as the reason for their meeting? Kanye clarified that on Twitter hours after it had concluded.
Anyway, Legend further expounded on his views of the entire debacle with Clique, reiterating what exactly about Trump makes ‘Ye’s endorsement of him unsettling. “I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country and I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people. And for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing…. Whatever was in his mind, I disagree with him.”
Of course, Legend’s stance on this issue should come as a surprise to no one. This is the guy that told Obama’s ex-chief strategist that he hadn’t a clue of what he was talking about on live TV, then called “The Star-Spangled Banner” “weak” on Twitter.
