Joey Bada$$ Glides Through Brooklyn in Vintage “500 Benz” for New Video

The vintage Mercedez-Benz sedan is already a thing of beauty. Maneuvering through the streets of Brooklyn at night, it’s a whole other beast. Joey Bada$$ knows this well, as the music video for his Statik Selektah collaboration, “500 Benz,” proves.

In the clip, Bada$$ draped in Gucci and sun-shielding with Cartier whips around in the car and performs in front of it, offering roses to his lady friend and hopping out for the quintessential store run—a snapshot of a 90s’ Bed-Stuy rapper’s dream if there ever was one. Over methodical production from Statik, punctuated by a mesmerizing sax, Joey mulls the authenticity of his relationships with friends and women, reluctantly admitting that he fears someone taking advantage of him.

Joey’s reflection on “500 Benz” follows All-Amerikkkan Bada$$, the album the Brooklyn rapper released in April that focuses on commentary of how America has systematically brought about the injustices that black people have been fighting for centuries. The releases may differ content wise, but it’s clear that Joey is in search of some self-evident truths, be them about himself or his community.

Watch a piece of his quest above.
