PREMIERE: JayKin “100K” ft. Jay Worthy
Monday morning motivation music
We have covered quite a few Toronto and Montreal hip hop acts this year, but what about the other side of our Northern neighbor? Well, Vancouver has never made as much noise as T.O., but there’s definitely a scene that has produced a handful of notable MCs, DJs, producers and even beatboxers.
MASS APPEAL has been watching Vancouverite JayKin’s moves for years. He’s spent a number of them living in Tokyo and Seoul and was embraced by both Far Eastern cities’ hip hop communities. In fact, he was down with Korea’s Hi-Lite Records crew when Keith Ape still went by Kid Ash. He also featured on French beatmaker Onra’s EP on Fool’s Gold, Deep In the Night, and performed on his Japanese tour. While JayKin hasn’t dropped a full project in years, he’s finally been leaking new cuts in 2017.
JayKin has been working on a new album titled BONUS for a while now, and today we’re giving you a single titled “100K.” This is foreign whip music. The beat by Gloom utilizes an ’80s sample and some 808 to give it that classic West Coast feel. Jay lays in the cut, not needing to spazz out to demonstrate his skill. The slow tempo gives him space to change up his cadence from slow and deliberate, to double time, and back. While Jay Worthy now calls Compton home, he is Vancouver-raised, so, these two go back. Anyways, he comes through and adds his trademark nasally flow, putting down his co-sign at the same time. We know it ain’t sunny out, but you’re gonna want to throw on your shades on for this one regardless.
