Jamie xx Enlists Sofia Mattioli For “Sleep Sound”

With the release of his double A-side 12″ coming in less than a month (via the folks at Young Turks), Jamie xx has released the video for the album cut “Sleep Sound,” an interesting visual that was the result of collaborating with London-based artist and poet Sofia Mattioli. Mattioli, who directed the clip, saw it as an opportunity for an experiment of sorts. Enlisting members of  the Manchester Deaf Centre to join her in dancing to the tune, she sought out to capture the interaction of silence and sound and the unexpected harmony the two create when they come together.

A chance encounter with a young hearing-impaired woman helped to birth Mattioli’s concept and would result in the beautiful and visceral video that you can experience for yourself above. Enjoy, put on your dancing shoes, and be on the lookout for Jamie xx’s Girl/Sleep Sounds dropping May 5.
