Natalie Portman is Pregnant in James Blake’s New Video
Somehow, he's still sad
Despite the title of his latest album, The Colour in Anything, James Blake has delivered a black & white music video for “My Willing Heart,” the ballad he co-produced with Rick Rubin. Blake’s voice slices through the open pockets of the barely there chord progressions, giving the track a brooding, quietly devastating aura. But with the video, Blake seeks to pinpoint a contrary emotion: hope.
Natalie Portman, who reportedly gave birth to her daughter just days after this video was filmed, is the lone star of “My Willing Heart.” As Blake sings of being left weary by the uncertainties about his romantic future, Portman rubs her protruding belly, offering a message of new possibilities. The differing sentiments bring about a glass half-empty, glass half-full duality to the song, and it’s safe to say with this video, Blake is hoping to emphasize the latter perspective.
