Hurricane Harvey is Tragic, Here Are Some Ways You Can Help
Every little bit counts
In case you’ve been living under a rock (or without Internet access) for the past few days, you should know that a massive hurricane has struck parts of Texas. Hurricane Harvey has left at least five people dead and a region completely devastated by floods and high winds. FEMA is estimating that at least 30,000 people are seeking temporary housing.
Here’s some recent drone footage that shows just how bad things are:
Texas officials are currently asking for the help from local residents who have boats and are able to assist in search-and-rescue operations. But if you live outside of the affected area and are able to help, here are some organizations accepting donations for relief aid. Most of these groups will be on the ground directly helping Texans dig themselves out of this tragic mess.
The Red Cross isn’t a stranger to entering regions in times of turmoil and offering a helping hand. You can go to their website to make a donation, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or send a quick $10 donation by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999. Their website also has a signup sheet for those looking to volunteer on the ground.
“The American Red Cross is helping the people affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and all across the Gulf coast,” a statement on the organization’s website reads. “Shelters are open, truck loads of supplies are being distributed and volunteers in place.”
The Salvation Army, as always, will be on the ground helping with cleanup and recovery efforts—they could always use a little help. You can make donations on their website here.
