Future Is Reportedly Dropping Another Album On Friday
Could he be the first rapper ever to go #1 twice in as many weeks with new albums?
Future is known for his frantic release schedule.Last week, however, he released his first solo project since 2016’s EVOL–the album Future–the end of a hiatus that some believe was an indication that the Atlanta rapper was ready to slow his roll. That estimation appears to be glaringly wrong, as Future is reportedly set to drop another album this Friday.
The report first came from HitsDailyDouble, the widely used and revered music sales and rumor mill website, but in his Twitter Q&A today, Future didn’t deny it when asked if he was releasing music so quickly to help ease his rumored financial tussle with Rocko.
Future built a sizable portion of his star power during an blistering 16-month run from late 2014 to early 2016, during which he released seven projects. Three of them were albums–DS2, What A Time To Be Alive with Drake, EVOL–that debuted atop the Billboard 200, and the other four were mixtapes, three of which produced at least one Top 40 R&B/Hip Hop hit on Billboard each. His new announcement, however, opens up the possibility for Future to make some serious chart history early in the new year. In the past, there have been rappers to release two #1 albums in the same year (Future is actually one of them, courtesy of 2015’s DS2 and WATTBA), but never has a rapper–or any artist, for that matter–released two completely different and new albums in back to back weeks to #1 debuts. That could very well happen now that Future is expected to officially bow at #1 with first-week numbers of roughly 140,000 units.
