Future delivers video for "Feds Did a Sweep."

Future’s “Feds Did a Sweep” Video is Exactly What We Needed It to Be

At the tail end of Future’s chaotic, brazen self-titled album, released in February of this year, is a sentimental cut, “Feds Did a Sweep,” that feels like the sonic antithesis of the rest of the project. The dubious charisma Future exhibits on it, despite his narrative being framed around the harrowing details of the dreaded federal raid, instantly made it a fan-favorite. Emotional Future has become a sensation over the last several years, and instead of firing off another three or four-minute visual for the track, Future flexed his cinematic muscle and delivered a 10-minute video, which feels a lot more like a short film.

Close affiliates of the Atlanta rapper, including his brother, Casino, and Young Scooter, co-star in the dramatic clip, framed around an informant helping federal agents infiltrate his crew. Throughout the video, Future makes sidebar appearances, rapping the words to the song and glancing longingly into the camera as prosecutors and defense attorneys bicker over the resulting case in court. Just before the informant’s crew is done in by his signed statement, he’s killed by poisonous breakfast, retaliation for ratting out his folks.

The storyline is delicately brought to life. Children flinch when federal agents burst through the door of a stash house. The soon-to-be deceased informant, worried about the well-being of his children, screams at an indifferent federal agent before he’s killed. Future himself seems empty-eyed as he narrates the proceedings, much of which take place in his Kirkwood, Atlanta, stomping grounds. Nailed it.

For now, the video can only be viewed on Apple Music, and you can do so here. Watch a teaser above.
