Eric B Disses Eric B(ellinger) in 2017’s Weirdest Beef So Far

The Twitter account of ever-essential duo Eric B. & Rakim has dissed Eric Bellinger on Twitter because Bellinger riffed on the title of the act’s classic track, “Eric B. Is President,” for the name of his latest R&B series. In September of 2016, Eric Bellinger released Eric B. For President: Term 1, a brief EP stocked with original music. He followed it with Eric B. For President: Term 2 this March. Now the originals seem pissed. We now present to you the weirdest beef of 2017 so far.

“This clown Eric Bellinger still trying to fool listeners into thinking his music is @EricB’s so they download it,” reads a since-deleted tweet from the verified Eric B. & Rakim Twitter account yesterday. It was followed with a YouTube link to their song, “Make ’Em Clap to This,” and another shot at Bellinger: “Maybe Eric Bellinger just has never heard #EricBisPresident. Maybe it’s time to make em clap to this.”

It should be noted that in the press release for Eric B. For President: Term 1 , which went wide in August of last summer but can still be viewed publicly, praise and reverence is heaped onto Eric B. & Rakim’s legacy. It reads, “Bellinger sought to pay tribute to Eric B & Rakim’s classic song ‘Eric B. Is President,’ citing that the song title has ‘been a phrase that has stuck with me my whole life. They opened doors for generations of artists to prosper in this industry. This is my way of saying thank you and providing physical proof that they made a difference. Plus, with this project being more hip hop driven and a campaign that could potentially put the first female president in office, it was only right.’”

So maybe Eric B., or whoever is handling the account, hadn’t had a chance to peruse the press release.
