Is Drake’s ’More Life’ Better Than ‘Views’ or Nah?
We asked, you answered.
Last night Drake’s much anticipated More Life “playlist” debuted on OVO Sound Radio, via Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio. It’s been months since the announcement of the project as a “soundtrack to your life” on the artist’s 30th birthday, which was initially expected before the end of 2016, then earlier this year, then last weekend, and now finally arrives (though only after an additional 15 minute delay on the OVO Radio show—it takes time to make more life!).
Of course, the internet freaked out, as damn near the whole world tuned into OVO Sound for a global listening session of the 6 God’s newest offering. The let’s-not-call-it-an-album-for-some-reason playlist features appearances by a slate of stars, including Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Quavo, British heavyweights Sampha, Skepta and Giggs, as well as none other than Kanye West. Drake celebrated the playlist, which is now live on all streaming services, with a new tattoo, and commemorated the project with the following note:
More time with family and friends. More Life.
I’ve still got vibrations to send. More Life.
They say that we could live forever
At night I pray it’s true
I’ve done so much in my short time and still there’s more to do
But if someone should come collecting
Sooner than we’re all expecting
At least the life you lived was one for you
After facing a barrage of criticism from rap Twitter following Views, which was seen as a blatant pop play rather than the display of the 6 God’s #BARS, the stakes weren’t necessarily high for More Life (Drake cashed in like a mf’er on Views, so you know… he’s good!), but there was a sense that say, a Views pt. 2, might signal the beginning of the end of the chokehold Drizzy’s had on the rap game since 2009’s So Far Gone.
So with More Life fresh out the oven, we took to Twitter to see what you thought about Drake’s newest dish. This is what you had to say.
So… better than 'Views' or nah? pic.twitter.com/csntmSMLqd

@SageTerrence doesn’t speak too fondly on Drizzy’s 2016 offering
Views was horrendous so it HAD to better than that. https://t.co/hfAlq707qL

In fact, we got very few responses in support of last year’s album, but there were a few true Views believers. Shout out to “Hype,” “Pop Style,” and that end of the night deal-sealer “Controlla,” right?
