Dej Loaf Writes a Love Letter with “No Fear”
And uses disco house to deliver it
Dej Loaf is living that pop star life, so why not drop a pop tune? Her newest song “No Fear” is a disco house track with plenty of funk synths and live guitar; all bright and catchy. It’s a love note to a distant partner. But like any star, the obligations of the job keep her from her lover. She stays on the road and in the studio, surrounded by other people and waves of fans. But she still wants what they had, to push through all the noise and find each other with no fear. “Even though I live my life on the road/ Doesn’t mean I don’t have time for you/ Plenty have tried, almost came close/ But none of them compare to you/ So let’s live our life, more than one night/ Promise if I could, I’d do it twice.”
The move towards new sounds that allowed for different lyrics was intentional. “How I talk is important to me and my message that I tell the kids,” she told XXL earlier this year. “I’m careful with my words now, that’s another thing, why I wanted to slow down on hip-hop.”
“No Fear” is the first single off the Detroit artist’s upcoming debut full length, Liberated. The project has been pretty much finished since the end of last year, but we’re just now starting to see it roll out.
