Chillin Island Takes Over Queens Museum This Saturday

The stern folk over at Chillin Island school for delinquents have put together a studious assembly for the Queens Museum’s Becoming New Objects series this Saturday. If you stopped one by the Babycastles shows a couple months ago, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect.

This mandatory conference will feature live lectures by the likes of rappers Despot and Heems, as well as a noise rock seminar by super(hero)group Spanish Broads—whose members include Mass Appeal favs like Dapwell and Dadras, as well as stalwarts Miho Hatori and Caroline Polachek. There’s gonna be recordings played by the ever-eclectic Total Freedom too; it’s sure to be a DJ set you’d regret slacking on.

yo-fight-my-mansYou ever wanted to see A-Ron or Venus X in a fight? Well, now’s your chance. The matches will be courtesy of Yo Fight My Mans, an indie video game by Prashast Thapan that features infamous New Yorkers thoroughly stomping each other; complete with special cheat code moves and fatalities. They’ll be premiering the game’s most recent version, which includes new characters and locations. There will also be a recreation of Dap’s childhood bedroom that may or may not make you question your life decisions (or his).

The whole thing is organized in collaboration with the venue Trans-Pecos, that Ridgewood spot known for booking acts too weird to live and too rare to die. So fall through and experience Queens at its strangest and loveliest on May 14 at 7 p.m., all for the low low of $12. We’ll see you there.
