New Music From: Alkaline, Sean Paul, XXXTentacion and More

Just because you blinked while you were thumbing through your apps doesn’t mean you should miss one of the many musical gems that come out every single day. We’re here to make your life a little easier and to make it sound a whole lot better with The Listening Room, our daily roundup of the new songs you need to hear.

Alkaline x Sean Paul
“Gyalis Pro”
Producer: DJ Frass

Man, Sean Paul was wikkid back in the day. Then he went so sugary pop it made my teeth hurt. But I keep checking hoping for a little of the old deejay style, and this tune with Alkaline (one of dancehall’s younger stars) brings it back to better days. It’s got a little of that ’90s vibe and is impossible not to bounce to. Basically it’s about being a player and pulling as much buns as they can, but the feel of the Crazy Glue riddim and their delivery bury that a bit for a more jubilant mood. Mike Steyels

“Slipknot” f/ Kin$oul & Killstation
Producer: P. Soul

“Slipknot” is one of four new songs that controversial South Florida rapper  XXXTentacion released last night. It’s also possibly his most poignant. While the track doesn’t offer the nostalgic samples of everyone’s favorite masked heavy metal group, the young MC displays his versatility over top of a jazzy piano production by P. Soul. –Kyle Petreycik

Cueheat x SoReal x Merks x Arghtee
“You Are”

I can’t get enough of French Montana and Sway Lee’s “Unforgettable.” It’s just vibes. So I’m mad excited to see remixes pop up now because I’d listen to it all day if I could. This happens to be a Jersey Club remix. It’s not too fancy and pulls just a few memorable parts from the original, mixing it up in an edgy club style with crunchy percussion. The track has more producers on it than I can name in one breath, so just hit play. MS

Project Pablo
“Risk the Rip”

More soothing sounds from Vancouver producer Patrick Holland, aka Project Pablo. With releases on 1080pCollection and a handful of EPs on Hybridity Music, Holland displays the breezy side of house music again and again. These are tunes that would feel right at home in an interstellar coffee shop. Spaced out synths and funky percussion are what Pablo does best. The producer’s forthcoming project will be available on Brooklyn’s Let’s Play House. –KP

“I Think She Like Me”

Ten hours ago Spitta Andretti launched his 4/20 Massacre, uploading two loose joints to his ever-popping Soundcloud page. “I really push rhymes like weight,” he boasts whilst picking bags up dropping bags up on the menacingly minimalist “Skateboard P.” But it’s the Stylistics-sampling “I Think She Like Me” where his lyrical gift really shines. “Now who rapping bout it and who really got it, let’s see,” he challenges over the soulful backdrop. And you already know this. Flight Club walks it like they talk it. Rob Kenner
